World Hepatitis Day

Worldwide, 300 million people are living with
viral hepatitis unaware. Without finding the undiagnosed and linking them to care, millions will continue to suffer, and lives will be lost. On World Hepatitis Day, 28 July, we call on people from across the world to take action, raise awareness and join in the quest to find the “missing millions”.

Viral hepatitis is one of the biggest global health threats of our time
1.34 million deaths a year
Causes two in every three liver cancer deaths
300 million people living with viral hepatitis unaware

But together we can eliminate viral hepatitis
Global elimination strategy adopted in 2016
A cure for hepatitis C and treatment and vaccine for hepatitis B exists
Viral hepatitis included in Sustainable Development Goals

Alcohol intoxication

Acute alcohol intoxication, or alcohol poisoning, can occur after drinking too much alcohol too fast. Some drinkers, or those sensitive to alcohol may become acutely intoxicated and suffer serious consequences after ingesting small amounts of alcohol.

Alcohol intoxication, also known as drunkenness among other names, is a physiological condition that may result in psychological alterations of consciousness.

After  alcohol is swallowed, the alcohol is rapidly absorbed into the blood (20% through the stomach and 80% through the small intestine), with effects felt within 5 to 10 minutes after drinking. It usually peaks in the blood after 30-90 minutes and is carried through all the organs of the body.
